New dimensions in healing

Barin Mehta

Editor's note

Modern times are seeing an increase in methods of energy healing. Any sincere practitioner of these methods sooner or later confronts incurable cases or cases that keep coming back with the same complaint. What is the reason? How do we deal with them? This article opens up a possible way...

People nowadays are increasingly using alternative therapies to cure themselves or just improve and maintain their health. Thus healing is now vastly accepted in both Eastern and Western societies. Healers too are not only providing services with therapeutic guidelines, they have also learned to grasp things by way of their own little intuitive understanding. However, they are still also facing issues related to difficulties in healing and recurrence of healed diseases. For this reason, they are trying to go into deeper levels of consciousness in order to better understand the real reasons for such illnesses. They know that these questions have to be answered and many healers are therefore trying to get an insight into such happenings.

Integrity in approach

First of all, healers have to adopt an integrated approach apart from the usual practices they are pursuing. They have to realise the need to keep an open mind concerning other therapies too, as well as to prepare for changes within themselves. This major thing must be accomplished in order to enhance the nature of global healing practices.

A person who has learned reiki or any other natural healing system is usually familiar with a few issues related to healing. Most users of energy-based natural healing methods are aware of the recurrence of healed illnesses, sometimes even arising after upto 4 years. This is an unavoidable problem in healing caused by our human nature and its habit of inviting back certain old patterns.

Such recurrences have different reasons, according to the specific individuality of the person concerned. These recurrences should be considered as a message for healers to learn more about the different dimensions of healing, to go beyond and expand on the things they are currently doing and applying. They have to open up their own inner sense to new ways of understanding. Whenever they come across new issues and problems or a recurrence of old issues related to healing, they must practise with the aspiration of being constant learners in order to find a positive outcome.
One cannot do this without an integrated approach. This also means breaking self-imposed barriers as a healer and being willing to learn horizontal and vertical issues related to healing, a need to think outside the box. Whatever has been learnt is good, but one should never stop expanding one’s knowledge.

No healer can heal properly if the patient or client is not ready to cooperate. In the course of the healing process several things can come up, not all of which the patient will understand. But the healer can ask the person to cooperate and just allow the process to take place. The patient can perhaps affirm, “I am allowing this process as a part of the healing I have asked for.” If the person had been treated before and was satisfied with the healing, but if after some time the disease returns, then this intention should be used to help the person to combat the disease and remove it completely if possible.

Old habits

Healers have to be aware that old habits are often responsible for the recurrence of healed diseases. Old habits imply age-old human body patterns. Our body is a mass of cell-based tissues and when organised properly in a way for the consciousness to activate them, it works accordingly. This concept should be understood properly by healers because without understanding the body and its age-old patterns, which are also affected by our vital and mental movements, one cannot move forward and heal diseases caused by them.

Let us discuss this with an example: a person has just been diagnosed with diabetic symptoms, with the potential of becoming a chronic case if no proper care is taken. In medical terms, we say the person is a borderline case. Now this disease is known to be hereditary. It is going to affect the person, because it will naturally and genetically be carried forward as an age-old body pattern. Is it possible to heal this?

‘Yes’, should be the answer, but it will not be easy. It will need deep continuous, conscious effort with a spiritual inclination related to the healing. The healer also needs to inform his patient about whatever procedure he is planning to use. This will facilitate the patient’s cooperation as well as make that person aware of the disease and its inherent patterns. It will help him to deal with the disease in general. The patient should be told to think positively so as to grasp the healing energy with the intention of helping the healer express his healing intention effectively. Statements such as the following can be used to motivate the patient:

“Any genetic or hereditary problem is going to be healed from the root, right here and now!”

God’s grace too will have to work on it. The healer can ask for help from God too:

“Please help this healing process for the betterment of evolving human life and manifesting your Grace here!”

Past lives

There is a possibility of past-life influences in cases of a healed disease recurring. This is related to old patterns and mysticism and is not always easy to discover as sometimes there is also a rigid resistance that emerges from the body. Healers mostly interpret this as the person not accepting healing energy or rejecting the healing process. But a past life may provide the answer.

As a healer, I have faced a few cases like this, and in some cases it was indicated to me through symbols or words related to some past-life incident. I too had begun to understand such things only lately. However, I tried to follow through whatever I understood and applied the healing intention or even submitted it to the healing energy for it has the means to reach into any depths because of its universality. There were rare times when I had received indications that I needed a greater empowerment to heal this type of problem. In other words, a higher energy is required to flow from the healer. I asked the question then, what kind of higher energy, but it was only later that I understood the indication for me was to go deeper into the healing process, to enter into the realm of the healing energy and be open to all possibilities and explore it in an invocative way. But there are miles to go yet before I can fully understand this complex picture!

There is a need to learn how to lead the patient into the past-life regression process. Psychotherapy uses hypnosis for such a process, guided by a trained hypnotist. Energy healers have to explore energy with patience as well as correctly interpret certain occurrences. If done with intense concentration, one can take the patient into the past-life regression process. This may take from half an hour to two hours.

I know that this is a mystical process, but in the community of healers such means are a natural part of healing. Mysticism is thoroughly positive and will always help any healer and requires a deep invocative healing process.

All healers know that to heal anyone or anything completely of any disease, one always asks for removal of the ‘root cause’. This helps the healing energy to get through to the root of the disease, making the prospect of complete healing more possible. Besides, with this process the physical, vital and mental forces are also addressed so that the whole body — vital and mental as well as our auric body — can be addressed positively.

Let us now examine what we term the root cause and what kind of new dimension must be reached to remove it.

The basic or root cause

We use these two words, ‘root cause’ in our talks, conversations and teaching, as well as for general purposes, when considering healing. By these words, we mean that the healing process will remove the basic underlying cause without any possibility of it reappearing. This is the specific meaning of the term ‘root cause’ and its use. But the root cause is the real issue when a disease sometimes recurs with the same intensity. But if the healing process had healed the disease at the roots, then how can it still return? Does this mean that the disease had not healed completely, that the root cause was not removed? These are some of the questions healers would ask when faced with such cases.

That is why our search needs to somehow find the base of the root cause and remove the disease pattern thoroughly and completely. This is not just a word game but a sincere concern amongst healers!

The first and unavoidable reason will invariably be from the patient’s side. He or she must have recalled the root cause or invited the disease again by re-opening the path. This might sometimes occur unknowingly, but mostly it is done knowingly. The person somehow can’t accept or understand that the disease is really healed and is inclined to doubts. This is a natural aspect of human nature which has a certain kind of duality that always affects it, and so doubts begin to surface. This somehow becomes harmful and re-opens the path for an already healed disease to recur.

So we can say that the root cause was activated in the body because of the patient’s wrong approach or attitude. So the healer needs to clarify this with the patient, outlining the healing process and its consequences. At the same time the healer can help by including an intention to remove the ‘doubt factor’ during the healing process. This might help the patient to deal with or control any duality arising within him/herself.

Let us try to understand what the ‘base of the root cause’ means. The root cause refers to all issues at the physical, emotional-vital, and mental levels. Therefore the base of the root cause may likewise have its origin within the physical, emotional-vital or mental levels. According to a fundamental understanding amongst healers, there is no physical root cause of any disease except hereditary, past-life karma, and destiny based diseases. We can connect it to the physical only by considering genetic programming or pre-dispositions. Other diseases are invited by creating emotional and mental blockages, which opens the path to them.

The emphasis is here on the base of the root cause, not just the root cause itself. This means the root cause may have been removed, but if its base has not been purified and the subtle memory of the functional process comes back, a re-opening of the disease path will naturally occur and the once healed disease may reappear.

For instance, if we find and remove a toxic plant in our garden by its roots that does not mean it will not grow back again. However, if at the same time we detoxify the area from where we removed the plant, it will not grow back. Likewise a detoxification-like process at the base of the root cause of diseases can perhaps stop the recurrence of a healed disease. Here, the role of the patient is just as important as the healer’s. His or her co-operation in expressing feelings and emotions, will bring forward the truth for the healer. This will in turn help to remove the root cause and bring a detoxification at the base of the root cause. This is somehow a more integrated approach.

I remember here one important topic in my Reiki Degree 1 course: self- responsibility. I used to say, “I am making you responsible for your health!”

Now after imparting these new dimensions in healing, I would like to add that, “I am making you responsible and aware about the totality regarding issues related to your health and the healing processes!”
What is this totality? How is it related to health and healing processes?

As individuals we are used to saying ‘I’ frequently. ‘I’ am following democracy... ‘I’ believe in education to combat all kinds of ignorance... ‘I’ feel there is not enough patriotism…, etc. What is this ‘I’? Who is the user of this ‘I’?

Simply, it means myself, my body, and as the above sentences indicate, whatever I believe, feel, think, all this is ‘I’. Our body, our emotions, our thoughts, our heart and mind, plus whatever is supporting all these, all together become ‘I’, creates this ‘I’.

This ‘I’ also indicates the ego of the self as well as the identity of the self. This, when related with the healer’s ego-less healing, has a far greater impact. In order to gradually achieve more ego-less elements within himself, the healer has to practise healing with precisely such an intention — to lessen the ego! It means that whoever is performing the healing becomes the healing energy itself. The person is just a channel through which the healing energy reaches the patient.

I am not creating philosophical jargons here, I just wish to clarify what is totality, integrity and oneness in the self, and how we can diminish our ego, the ‘I’, for the benefit of our own self and our healing process.

I want to put forward a concept here which might create a storm, that is, as individuals, all of us lack complete inner unity, and this is the main root cause of our diseases and our imbalances! We are divided as a people and divided in our own self as individuals too. This kind of double duality affects us by creating different kinds of imbalances, prejudices, conflicts and so on.

Can we overcome these double dualities?

Yes, but only if we have the determination to confront and deal with the related issues, for there would be things which we might like to happen by default. I have come across such things in myself and know how determined I need to be when dealing with them.

We have to be aware that we are not just a body. We have a vital force, a mind with its own particular intelligence, as well as the subtle body — the blueprint of our physical body and psychic being to support our earthly existence objectively.

Now it is time to think about the role of the vital force as a functional factor of our body and how it plays a part in creating the root cause.

Role of the vital force (prana-Shakti)

Humans have a vital force. It provides us with our basic instincts. We know animals too have such basic instincts, but the vital force in man is more complex and therefore more prone to emotions, sensitivity, desires and desire-based motivations, etc. These are the aspects which distinguish us from animals. The vital force becomes more active in humans at the emotional level and touches the heart element.

Yoga and Indian spiritual practices have various methods to enhance this vital force and utilise it for good health and spiritual growth. Since this vital force is controlled by breathing techniques, pranayama is a major component of Yoga. This control of the vital force through pranayama helps to balance the emotional being with reality and spirituality. So when his healing energy starts its work, the first positive symptom a healer notices is the deep abdominal breathing and a resulting relaxation. This is not just my assumption, but what has been expressed to me by other people. This indicates that the healing process really deals with the patient’s imbalances to treat the ailments. This way usually heals the base of the disease and then goes within to work on the root cause or causes.

The vital force is important for the patient being healed, because of its role in balancing the emotions and sensitivity that are responsible for generating diseases by weakening the natural protective shield. The vital force has a habit of regenerating the disease if it is given the opportunity to generate unconscious emotional imbalances. As such, becoming aware of emotions and their activities within will help the patient in sustaining the healing and recovery. But our behaviour patterns are mechanical and led by nature, so to deal with such occurrences needs a continuous awareness. When healing such patients, the healer has to use an advanced intention process by saying:

“The healing energy is making the patient aware about not inviting back the healed imbalances of the emotions through unconscious behaviour patterns.”

The force of the mind (manas shakti)

People may now ask, “The mind is also part of our behaviour?”

Yes, that is true and here we are going to discuss this mind-force. In fact, we came into existence as human beings only after the evolution of the mind. It is interesting that the vital force evolved from matter and the mind evolved from the vital force. This means the evolutionary process has the key to the gradual improvement and progress of life.

Our main problem as human beings is that we understand things by dissecting reality. Our intelligence mostly uses an analytical approach in order to understand things. And to analyse, one has to divide and dissect. This is one process the mind has followed through the ages and it has given many good results too. But we hardly use its grasping power as a knowledge-gaining tool because of the doubts our mind has. Thus what is providing us with mental capacity also limits us by its various conflicting aspects. As a process it is a necessity because an immature mental power can lead us into an improper mental hierarchy as per our whims and fancies.

Healers also believe that 99.99% of diseases are psychosomatic, meaning that the root cause must have a mental intervention. For example, it is probable that when someone eats or smokes tobacco for the first time the body will reject it. But after persisting with the habit and using a mental power to suppress the rejection, he makes it into a habit. If such an addicted person is unable to get tobacco whenever he craves it, he feels bad and unhappy. This is not a physical need but one imposed at the physical level by the mind.

Indeed man often suppresses the physical and emotional levels of his being through sheer domination imposed by an overactive mind.

Our individual mind is adjoined to the universal mind. Healing is a science of possibilities, with the healing energy responding according to the level of truthfulness between the healer and the patient. It is known that the healing energy opens the blocks and tries to reach through to the root cause. This is a fact that many patients and healers have experienced. Yet sometimes the recurrence of a healed disease is an issue in the field of healing that should be resolved as early as possible with the help of an experienced healer.

The psychic being and healing

This is a new term in the area of healing, although it is well known in yoga. Sri Aurobindo and the Mother have particularly explored this part of our being very thoroughly and clearly to guide spiritual practitioners. The psychic being indicates our real inner being, enclosed deep inside the cage of our heart. Known as antaraatmaa or chaitya purusha in Sanskrit, this psychic being has taken part in the individual evolutionary process passing through many births in order to learn God’s secret meaning of life.

As a healer one knows that the healing energy first enters the healer and then goes from the healer’s hands to heal the patient. This indicates two things — first, any energy healing done by a person proceeds by first entering into the person and then flowing out from his hands for this purpose. The second observation is that this healing energy enters the self and we experience the process as it naturally enters into the heart chakra and from there flows out from the hands.

Most healers follow this process mechanically due to their long practice. Few of them are aware why it enters the self at the heart chakra and then flows out. Our heart chakra is the centre of our vital force and the vital force is the factor that activates every life-form. As a higher evolved form, we humans are provided with many levels and variations of this vital force to explore life and its various activities and become inherently capable of greater spiritual possibilities.

Let us go through the details of this process more thoroughly. When a healer begins the healing process, the healing energy descends from above and enters into the healer through the crown chakra set above the head. Once it has entered, this healing energy passes through a connection code, known in yoga as the sushumaana naadii or the centre code or central channel of our auric body. Then crossing each chakra one by one, it rises up and enters into the heart chakra, fills it and then flows out through the hands for healing. In the course of this process, one important change is happening in the healer’s body – the energy cleans and heals all the chakras and throws out any waste when it comes out in a healing flow through the hands. All the lower chakras, which represent our basic instincts and the animal elements as inherent parts of human evolution, are cleaned and healed twice. First, when the healing energy goes down to the root chakra and when it comes up to the heart chakra and fills it. Secondly, when it comes out as a flow through the hands, cleansing and healing is also activated and the waste separated and submitted for purification to the energy source. So the healer’s waste never affects the patient and the entire healing process is safe.

The important role of the heart chakra is due to its central position in the body and its focal point midway between the three lower chakras and the three upper chakras. Vibrations are exchanged through this central point. Therefore the heart chakra is a place where the upper chakras’ positive vibrations influence the lower chakras’ instinctive and mechanical vibrations and promote and uplift them for a spiritual purpose. That is why the heart chakra is such an ideal place and why the healing energy flows from there in such an effective manner. At the same time, the heart chakra also benefits as its more negative aspects such as dualities of envy, anger and any other negative emotions are flushed away too. In this way, the heart chakra is granted a positive spiritual opening with the possibility of moving forward for inspirational growth.

Now let us come to the most amazing point regarding the heart chakra: the fact that deep inside this cage of the heart lies the seat of our psychic being itself. Whenever the healer is active, this chakra becomes more active too; all the processes of cleansing, energising and balancing start simultaneously. This helps to purify the chakra more and more. The more this chakra is purified, the greater an opening of the cage hiding the psychic being is achieved, making the full emergence of the psychic being possible. Though neutral and full of objectivity our psychic being presides over the purification process and eventually can even assume a more masterful role and even help the healer and provide a much deeper understanding of healing and his or her spiritual growth.

If any healer is able to achieve this then he will be better able to heal rigid and highly blocked diseases as well as stop the possibility of healed diseases recurring.
It is said that destiny and death are the two major things related to all life and which cannot be changed. Our knowledge and understanding of life through various wise people, yogis, and saints have taught us that these two things are not in our hands. We can overcome their effects by achieving a state of yogic existence that will provide us with a new understanding of destiny, and so enable the Grace to work on it with very positive results. The healing process can do this to healers and even to the healed, if they achieve the state of yogic existence through healing. This is a new dimension given to help us to combat the elements of disease and sickness on earth before the Supramental Transformation becomes a reality.

Healers must have understood by now that the healing process is done through the descent of the healing energy, i.e. it is through the descending energy that disease is healed and strength, peace and relaxation to the body, heart and mind is provided. At the same time, the positive response of the patient to the healing energy is a phenomenal process which provides us with the realisation that the body and its system can respond to the healer’s descending energy with an ascending aspiration. This is a unique evolutionary part of the Supramental Transformation.

Conclusion

I would like to summarise the main points of this article here:

1. Healers and patients should both adopt an integrated approach in the healing process for the benefit of healing and dealing thoroughly with disease.

2. In order to heal diseases, healers have to accept the fact that the body’s age-old habit patterns are a result of the body’s evolutionary hereditary process.

3. Whenever there is a recurrence of healed diseases, then check out for past-life influences also. If findings vouch for this fact, then a past-life regression process can be applied in long-term sessions, and with patience.

4. If past-life regression is used, then the healer should adopt an invocative healing process. This means submitting one’s self totally to the healing energy of the regression process.

5. The healer must consider the root cause and the purification of its base — physical, emotional, mental — to complete the healing, so that a healed disease cannot recur.

6. The vital force should be treated at the base of a root cause, with an awareness that any emotional imbalance and unconscious behaviour patterns should not be allowed to get repeated and thus provide the chance for an already healed disease to recur.

7. Because of its various unstable and whim-based activities, the mind does not always lead human beings in a way that is conducive to good health and spiritual growth. So treat the patient with the intention of guiding his or her mind to achieve peace and relaxation for maximum healing benefit.

8. The goal of a healer should be to grasp the psychic being’s guidance for the healing energy to go into the deepest possible realm of the healing processes.
